Mr. D’amico is a new theology teacher here in Cardinal Newman, and it is his first year teaching! I was fortunate to get an interview with him.
What college did you graduate from?
“FAU. I spent most of my life here in Florida, and I spent a couple years in Georgia. I got a bachelor in marketing.”
What made you decide to teach theology?
“I never really thought of being a teacher before; I just left a job and came back home and I was figuring out what to do next. And I knew I wanted to serve the Lord in some capacity and that’s a difficult thing to do and have it be financially lucrative in this diocese. But I decided to apply to campus ministry here in Newman, but it was filled. But then Mr. Curtin [current principal] offered me a position as a theology teacher. I said, ‘I’m not sure about that.” But I went into an interview and he convinced me to just try it out.”
What parish do you go to?
“I go to St. Rita in Wellington.”
How has it been here in Newman so far?
“It’s been great! I didn’t know what to expect from teaching, but this is an amazing school! The students are amazing, the faculty and leadership is tremendous. The students have been treating me well.”
Where can someone find you?
“I teach 5 classes here in Portable 2.”
Anything else you’d like to say?
“Just that I love the Lord and I love serving the Church; and I try serving anyway I can.”
You can find Mr. D’amico’s class in the portables, and make sure to say ‘hi’ on the way to lunch or if you see him in the hallways. We want to welcome any new faculty members and students into our Newman family.
