Homecoming week is that one week a year where we get to celebrate not only our football team but Cardinal Newman as a whole. Each day of homecoming week has a special dress-up theme and activity surrounding the day. The dress up themes for the 2023 homecoming week included; country vs. country club, USA day, decades day, college jersey day, and lastly class colors day. For decades-day, the freshmen were 70s, the sophomores were 80s, the juniors were 90s, and the seniors were the 2000s. For class colors day, the freshmen were neon orange, the sophomores were neon green, the juniors were neon blue, and the seniors were neon pink.
On Thursday, students went to an assembly on the football field to watch the PowderPuff game. The assembly started with the juniors playing the freshmen on one side of the field while the seniors played the sophomores on the other side. The juniors were able to beat the freshmen while the sophomores claimed their victory over the sophomores. During the final championship game, which was the sophomores playing the juniors, the sophomores came on top, winning the entire game.
On Friday, we had a pep rally in the gym. The assembly began with introducing all of our fall sports teams, including an impressive dance routine from our new dance line team. After, we had our class volleyball game which started off the same as the PowderPuff game, juniors playing freshmen, and seniors playing sophomores. The juniors came victorious over the freshmen and the sophomores beat the seniors. However, in the final championship round,the juniors were able to claim victory over the sophomores.
On the last day of our homecoming week (Friday), we had our homecoming football game against The Benjamin School. The stands were packed with both Cardinal Newmand and Benjamin students, both cheering on their team. The game was close but we took down an impressive victory of 17-14.
On Saturday night we celebrated our homecoming dance whose theme was carnival. At the dance there were many activities such as a Photo Booth and blow-up games to play. The food also played along with the theme as well. There was popcorn, cotton candy, and other carnival themed foods too.
In conclusion, the dance, the football game, and the overall week as a whole was a huge success! Another great homecoming at Cardinal Newman in the books!
