Every year, people fill Starbucks coffee shops waiting to order their famous fall drinks. But which drinks are worth the line? I asked Starbucks employees for their three most popular fall drinks and received the iced pumpkin spice latte, the iced pumpkin cream chai, and the iced pecan crunch oat milk latte. I initially thought that the most liked drink would be the pumpkin spice latte because as someone who is not a Starbucks lover even I have tried one. What I was surprised to find was that not a lot of people enjoyed this classic fall drink. On a ranking scale (10 being the best) the highest score was only an 8 and the lowest was a measly 1. One drinker described the flavor as “…a yummy pumpkin nutmeg taste that quickly dissipated and was replaced by an odd aftertaste.” A less enthusiastic drinker said, “It made me wish there were only three seasons.” My personal rating was a 6 because of the gross aftertaste it gave me, and the overall rating of the iced pumpkin spice latte was 4.7/10. In contrast, the pecan latte seemed like a drink only a few people would enjoy, but it ended up passing the pumpkin spice latte by over a point. The highest rating was a 9 and the lowest was a 2. The reason this one varied was because the pecan flavor was either loved or hated. One tester said “This tasted like fall in a cup. Like, super rich and cozy and exactly what I would order on a rainy day.” Another tester who was less of a fan claimed “This tasted like the recipe was invented by somebody who hated pecans and wanted everyone else in the world to hate pecans too. It worked.” My personal rating was a 9 because I loved the nutty flavor, and the amount of sweetness was just right for me. The overall rating for the iced pecan crunch oat milk latte was a 5.9/10. But the pumpkin chai was by far the highest rated. The highest rating was a 10 (which it had multiple of) and the lowest rating was a 4. One drinker said “The warm taste really made me think of fall.” My personal rating was a 10 because I love chai lattes and pumpkin flavor, so having both of these in a drink was a
dream come true for me. The only complaint people brought up was the sweetness of the drink, which is understandable. The overall rating of the iced pumpkin cream chai was an 8/10. In conclusion, if you’re looking to try a new fall themed drink next autumn, the iced pumpkin cream chai latte is the way to go.
