Have you ever wondered why people wear certain
colors to make their facial features stand out?
Interestingly enough, certain colors will accentuate
peoples features depending on their eye color, skin
tones, and hair color. The science behind color
selection based on your skin tone, eye color, and
hair color relates to the idea of color theory and the
concept of harmony in colors. Each of these colors
may complement or contrast with an individuals features which affects their overall appearance.
Skin Tones:
For those with warm undertones which are typically yellow, peach, or golden hues it is recommended to wear earthy tones: oranges, browns, and yellows. You can also wear warm reds and corals. People with cool undertones why are usually pink, red, or blue undertones should wear jewel tones (emerald, sapphire, and amethyst): cool blues, greens, and pinks. Lastly, people with neutral undertones which often have a mix of warm and cool undertones allow for more versatility. They can wear both warm and cool colors such as teal, soft pinks, and muted tones.
Eye Colors:
Eye colors can really pop out when you wear certain colors…
People who have blue eyes will look great with shades of blue, navy, and earthy tones like browns and greens to enhance their blue eyes. People who have green eyes can wear purples, lilacs and deep greens to bring out their eyes. Almost any color will work with people who have brown eyes but warm shades such as copper, bronze, and green will make them stand out more.
Hair Colors:
Hair color can also affect your ideal color palette. People with blonde hair should wear soft pastels such as light blue and gentle shades like lavender. People with brunette hair can wear rich and warm colors: burgundy, mustard, and deep greens. It will look flattering for people with red hair to wear earthy tones such as browns and greens. People with red hair can also wear jewel tones to enhance the vibrancy of their hair.
The best way to determine your ideal color palette is to experiment with different shades in natural light and seeing which shades will enhance your features. Ultimately, feeling confident in your clothes in important and choosing colors to wear can help boost your confidence.
