On Saturday, September 21st, 2024 Cardinal Newman participated in the St Jude Walk. This event started at 8 AM. Many students and teachers, including Principal Mr. Curtin, were there to support the life saving mission of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. This is a 5k Walk or run, depending on the individual, that takes place during Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Our Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders were also there supporting and cheering everyone on. Sophia Perez, a senior at Cardinal Newman who has been in the choir since her freshman year, sang the national Anthem at this event. The talent and the time that was shared at this occurrence early on a Saturday morning speaks positively to the mission of our school. The St Jude Children’s Hospital raised $215,187. They also raised $70.00 to fund cutting-edge treatments for childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude has more than 7,800 active patients each year and with all the money that was raised will help the hospital out even more. This event will support all the kids regardless of their race and ethnicity, or ability to pay. Our Principal Mr. Curtin says, “I am proud of the role that the Cardinal Newman family played in supporting the efforts of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.” He also says that he is mainly proud of the commitment that was shared by all of the families, students and the incredible staff and faculty.
We also thank Dr. Savor for organizing Cardinal Newman’s efforts in this event. All the students that participated were greeted by Dr. Savor to be checked in. We once again thank Dr. Savor for participating and all the work he had done.
We hope that next year with the help of our principal Mr. Curtin and Dr. Savor and also the faculty and students of Cardinal Newman will make this even a bigger event next year.
