Earth day is the annual event on April 22nd that demonstrates support for environmental protection and conservation. The goal of Earth Day is to promote and emphasize to people around the world the importance of protecting the environment and everything that lives within it.
Here at Cardinal Newman, the Green Club who is focused on putting the planet first and protecting the environment in our community as much as we can, plans out a week every year designated to celebrating earth day and saving the earth. This week is called Green Week and each day is filled with fun festivities such as wearing blue and green, being involved in campus cleanups, bringing trash free lunches, and overall focusing on enjoying nature and the outside world around us. This week is truly important and empowering because it lets all of us get involved in the effort to save our environment and truly understand and embrace the goal of Earth Day.
When the Green Club moderator Ms. Politz was asked what earth day meant to her, she said, “I see it as a time for everyone to recognize the beauty and importance of God’s creation that we should be stewards of. I feel like it should be something that should be everyday and that it is a good reminder of what we should be doing not just on earth day but everyday.” Green Club did a great job this year running Green Week and we can’t wait to see what next year’s Green Week will be like.
