HBO’S critically acclaimed series, The Last Of Us is returning for a second season. Based on NaughtyDog’s award winning video game, this action-packed season will continue where it left off in its season finale. For those who need a refresher, The Last of Us follows Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, as they survive in a world that has little to no civilization due to a pandemic causing people to become “infected” by cordyceps, a bacterial fungi. As they go through the harsh conditions, they develop a father and daughter relationship they both never knew they needed. According to Pedro Pascal, this is what he said regarding the second season at the 2024 SAG Awards. “Filming is going amazing.” In season two, the bond between Ellie and Joel will continue as they navigate a post-apocalyptic world. New characters will be added. Along with this, a series of new cast members will be added as well. Amongst fans, this has caused a stir. Some argue that the casting is not video game accurate while others argue that HBO has done their best. HBO is a popular streaming platform and the fans of The Last of Us are primarily fans of the game and those interested in the apocalyptic media. Knowing that the opinions differ, it is safe to say that the second season will spark some online debates. As the news of The Last of Us season two is still fresh, I asked two people who enjoy the show and have played the game about what they think about season two. These were the responses. Riley Gorman (Sophmore): “I thought [The Last of Us] it was really good and they all [the characters] had great chemistry the emotional scenes were done great.” Daylen Jackson (Senior): “I think the cast with Abby, Jeese, and Dina are really close on on point to the characters in the game I know they can’t be exactly but I mean they look the part and that’s what matters I just hope Kaitlyn Dever gets some muscle on her for Abby cause I mean that was a really big main look for her that’s how she’s described and how Ellie finds her at the very end I just hope they can get the story across perfect like season one and I’m interested to see how they incorporate the Rat King in this show and that battle since I know they took out some of the zombie types in the first season.” With both of these opinions merely being predictions of the show in their own right, in an interview with EW’s awardist podcast, showrunner Craig Mazin says the script is done and “We are all raring to go.” In the light of the SAG-AFTRA strikes, the production of season two was halted until further notice. Fans of the game and tv show await the return of this show excitedly and are impatient to see this story of Joel and Ellie unfold as they navigate the world post cordyceps virus and the people they meet along the way.
