On September 15, our beloved Homeroom teachers called our attention to our iPads. Upon them lay the fate of the elections, because the digital voting would determine who would win the Presidential, Vice-Presidential, and Secretarial seats for the Freshman class of 2027.
The election process started off with an interest meeting. A few of the prospective candidates dropped out, as only ten out of the fifteen-odd people who expressed interest were interviewed.
On August 28th and 29th , Dr. Savor, Dr. Nixon, Ms. Gibson, Ms. Politz, Ms. Garcia, and Mr. Lower interviewed candidates for the different positions. During the interviews, the candidates were asked if they could bend their extracurriculars to fit SGA meetings and if they understood the responsibilities at hand. They were also asked to send in their one-minute campaign videos by that Wednesday.
Then, it was time for videos and posters. While candidate videos were not viewed by students until the day of the voting, posters for Alejandro Herlong, Tessa O’Sullivan, William Sullivan, John Azzi, Abigail Charles, Coley Surovek, and the author plastered the walls on the 12th and 13th.
In the presidential race, the candidates were Herlong, O’Sullivan, Sullivan, and Emma Flynn. Sullivan’s bracelet-based campaign succeeded. (You can still find his bracelets on the wrists of the faithful today.) Elias Azzi, the author, won his race for Vice-President against Maxwell Griffon. He believes his victory was aided by an answer he gave to a question about religion asked at the Freshman retreat on September 14. He said afterwards, “I believe that some of the votes I received stemmed at least in part from the 60-odd people hearing that speech.” Abigail Charles and her popular crawfish symbol won the day for Secretary.
