Golfer Ford Shines on Course
As the 2018 golf season wrapped up this year, the Cardinal Newman Crusaders boys golf team finished with a record of 7 – 2. Out of all the outstanding players, one truly stood out from the rest and it was no surprise. It was four time Varsity player and team captain, Ford Wilt.
Ford is currently a senior at Cardinal Newman and will be graduating this spring, May of 2019. Ford had a phenomenal year on the course leading the team in many categories and having the best scores for the team this year.
One of his best scores and the lowest of the year for the team in a 9-hole match against Palm Beach Gardens High School was shot by Ford as he shot 33 which was 3 under par of 36 at BallenIsles Country Club.
Ford had a great season being medalist (lowest score) in many of the team’s matches this year. Ford really turned on the heat during playoff time. This year the golf team hosted the district tournament at their home course Bear Lakes Country Club, where Ford shot 72 even par to tie for first place in the district tournament. Fords outstanding performance at the district tournament qualified him a spot at the regional tournament at The Bears Club Country Club.
At the regional tournament Ford shot an amazing 75 to tie for first place forcing a 3-hole playoff. Ford won the playoff making him the low individual regional champion. Fords regional win qualified him to the Florida High School State 3A tournament. Ford battled against 100 top High School golfers. He finished 28th overall.
His accomplishments after the season included Team MVP and first team All-County by the Sun-Sentinel.
