The Cardinal Newman Crusaders Varsity Football team has their first anticipated football game against Kings Academy on August 17th at 7 p.m.

It is a pre-season game but an important one because it is against the Crusader’s rival Kings Academy.

The first game is “always exciting,” Coach Molina said. He said Kings Academy is a great team and “run a great system. They have a great quarterback too.” The Crusaders are looking to find ways to pressure the quarterback this Friday.

“We have improved a lot. We have had a lot of growth. Everyone has bought into the program,” Coach Molina said. “We are expecting to go into every game knowing we have a chance to win. So we are going to make sure we come out on top.”

The Crusaders have been practicing all summer under the blazing heat of South Florida.

“We are excited,” said Coach Molina. “We have a great group of guys. There is a lot of youth – a lot of experience,” he said.

The Crusaders are playing with high expectations this year, especially with all the hard work put in this summer.

“It was very intense but fun,” said Junior Receiver John Cantando. “It is tough because it is hot outside.”

The Crusaders will face a host of other tough teams throughout the season including Pahokee, Glades Central, and West Boca.

“I am very excited to play in the new team with new coaches. I feel very confident in the new offense we are running,” said Junior receiver John Cantando.
