The Cardinal Newman Drama Club performed it’s Spring musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, in April and it was a smash hit by audience members.

“The show was great. Cardinal Newman has a lot of talented actors and singers and crew. Great job!” said Susan Keusch, an audience member and Cardinal Newman Staff.

“It was flawless. Great Saturday night out,” said Dr. Diana Caris, English teacher, who attended her first Cardinal Newman musical. Lisa Ryan, math teacher at Cardinal Newman said, “It was awesome!” Sally Gibson, English teacher, said “It is wonderful. Very funny.”

The musical was truly a hit amongst the audience members.

“the show is billed as a comedy within a musical. One character, played by Anna Severtson, puts on a record of her favorite musical, titled ‘The Drowsy Chaperone,’ and leads the audience through it. The fictitious ‘Drowsy Chaperone’ itself promises, ‘mix-ups, mayhem, and a gay (fun) wedding,'” said Drama Club President Lauren Keffler said

Anna Severtson, senior actress, who played the “Woman in the Chair” said, “Everyone has worked really really hard on this…Two of our school’s great teachers, Dr. Sinha and Mr. Daniels, are even in the production. I personally love the music of this show and find it very entertaining.”

Keelin Hayden, who co-moderated the Drama Club alongside David Skantar encouraged students and teachers alike to come and see the production. She said, “The kids have worked very hard! I know they really appreciate people coming to see them.”

The performance was evaluated by three adjudicators from the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts as part of a new program called the Dream Awards. If the adjudicators deem that a number from the show was performed well enough, the Drama Club will be invited to perform that particular number at the Kravis Center.
